Chapter 15

The third and final meeting amongst the heads of families had been as volatile as the first. Now that the heads had a chance to interview and interact with Ryan, they seemed even more polarized than before. Luckily, that meant several more agreed with Graham's father that these wolves needed to be protected even though they weren't born into the family. Those who hadn't liked the idea from the get-go were more adamant now, saying these individuals put them all at a higher risk. That the betas would see it as more of a challenge to take over the family.

The head from Eastern Washington snorted when that had been brought up. "Doesn't that mean they would consider attacking the Western Washington family more of a challenge. I don't see how that affects us any, since none of us took any in."

Eventually Stephanie's father spoke over everyone else in the room, "There's no point in continuing this meeting as we are not about to agree on anything. Overall there doesn't seem to be an active reason to make Western Washington remove the made werewolves from their rosters. There is however reason the made werewolves would want the protection of the born werewolf families. While I disagreed with Ulysses' judgment and will continue to hunt for evidence I could not, in good conscience conclude that the wolves be removed."

Graham watched Richards give his head of family a very strange expression as the man spoke. He was not pleased with this statement but wasn't in a position to argue with the head of his family. So he stayed silent and frowned with slightly pursed lips.

Though no one appeared happy with that outcome the room cleared out quite quickly. Graham wouldn't be surprised if most of them were headed to their respective homes tonight. At least the ones who drove in. The rest of them would be waiting until their flights tomorrow morning.

There were several moments of silence as if they were all waiting to see if anyone else was going to pop out somewhere. When it became clear their family was alone the six of them moved closer together. Not so close as to appear as anything other than casual but close enough to hear each other whisper. Lyra's father closed his arms over his body. "Well, that was interesting," he commented with a frown. "I'm not sure what to make of his comments. It felt like he was giving up, but I get the feeling he was just testing the waters to see if anyone other than Montana was still with him. It was almost as if he was trying to save face in front of all of the other local leaders."

Graham's father unfolded his arms and began rapping the fingers of his left hand on the table. "I agree. I feel this is something we need to keep an eye on. I think we should prepare for the worst and have extra patrols running, in case that was just for show.
